NERA Releases Report on Shareholder Class Litigation

Finite Insurance Under the Microscope

William Katt, an Associate with the law firm of Foley & Lardner LLP, has written a brief overview of what can be expected in the upcoming United States v. TJX Settles Data Breach Lawsuit

TJX Companies have settled with nearly all of the banks and related bank associations over a breach of credit card data.

Terms of the settlement are confidential, but TJX stated that the costs have been covered by a $107 million dollar reserve. In this case, 45.7 million cards were exposed to possible fraud in a breach of computer systems that began in 2005, but wasn’t detected until 2006. The full story can be found here on the International Business Times website.

Ford Settles Class Action Discrimination Lawsuit

Ford Motor Company, two related companies and the UAW (United Auto Workers) have settled a race discrimination lawsuit by paying 1.6 million dollars and providing other relief. The United States EEOC charged that a written test to determine eligibility for an apprenticeship program discriminated against blacks. More information about this settlement can be found here on the BusinessWeek website.
